Manitowoc "S" Series

Manitowoc's new S-Series saves energy, is easier to clean than other models, and is the first ice machine to meet the new NSF/ANSI Standard 12-2002 sanitation guidelines.

  • Sanitation – The evaporator's side and back are now shielded from the food zone, reducing the number of surfaces that require cleaning. Surfaces and parts that require cleaning are 100% accessible from the front of the machine and can be removed simply without tools. For easy, wipe-down cleaning we replaced sharp edges and corners with soft, rounded surfaces.

  • Savings – The compressor is matched to work in tandem with each evaporator size. On certain models, incorporation of the air assist ice removal technology has improved efficiency. This cuts the time required to harvest ice in half. These improvements also reduce energy use up to 30%, compared to other competitive ice machines.

  • Sound – With the compressor mounted on its own raised platform, the new "S" Series has isolated any associated vibration. The machine base and food zone has been constructed from injection molded plastic and filled with foam in an effort to dampen any noise generated from inside the machine. Together, these smart design decisions produce a quiet ice machine.

  • Serviceability – Getting to the components is easy. Front doors are hinged and allow quick, easy access to the food zone, as well as to the enhanced electrical system with common control board. In addition, no-tools removal of main components reduces cleaning time and keeps downtime to a minimum.
"Our new S-Series is the most advanced line of ice machines available today and is designed to lower energy and service costs for restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, and institutions like schools and hospitals," said Tim Kraus, president of Manitowoc's Foodservice Group. "New-product development is a top priority for Manitowoc; these machines are one of several products that we'll be launching later this year resulting from our ongoing investments in research and development."

The S-Series ice machine differs from competitive products in several ways. It contains a fully insulated food zone, a patented air-assist ice removal process that harvests ice in half the time, and a compressor-to-evaporator ratio that helps conserve energy. These features allow the S-Series to use up to 30 percent less energy than other ice machines.

The S-Series is also easier to clean, service, and maintain. A hinged front door allows quick access to the forward-facing evaporator, and the water tray and distribution tube can be easily removed without tools. The S-Series also contains AlphaSan, a biofilm inhibitor that has been molded into plastic components, which minimizes the frequency of cleanings. Each of these features makes the S-Series the first ice machine to meet the criteria established by the National Sanitation Foundation under the new NSF/ANSI Standard 12-2003 guidelines.

Manitowoc's S-Series will include 10 different models of ice-cube machines ranging in daily production capacities from 280 to 1,800 pounds of ice. All units will be produced at Manitowoc's Wisconsin-based facility using demand-flow and lean manufacturing techniques. The first two S-Series models to be released - the S-850 and S-1000 - will be available in December 2003. The remaining S-Series models will be phased in during the first half of 2004.
